Gretchin mobs make up for their surprising lack of quality with sheer numbers. The natural cowardice and weak-limbed incompetence of the Gretchin race does not predispose them to the arts of war, and an ordinary Grot would choose to have his head buried in a sporehole rather than to take part in a real battle.
